Maybelline Color Tattoo Metal Inked in Pink

How did I not have this in my collection yet? I know the Metal Tattoos have been out for awhile now. I chose to skip them last spring, well because I have tons of Color Tattoos and it is going to take me forever to use them up. But with the release of the Naked 3 palette, I figured I really needed a pink base to compliment it. Inked in Pink fits that requirement. I grabbed this during a recent Shoppers Drug Mart redemption event so it was free, but the Colour Tattoos have been on sale all week for $4.99.

Inked in Pink is a frosty pink. It can be packed on for a more intense pink metallic look or patted on for a sheer wash to give your eyes a fresh awake look in a hurry. You can see below in my quick pink EOTD, I patted some on my lid, put Mauve from the Lorac Pro palette in the crease, added some liner and mascara and my eye look was done.

I found this pink cream shadow to last all day on my lids. I don’t think I have worn it past 9 hours but that’s pretty good in my books.

The new Maybelline Dare to Go Nude Spring 2014 collection is finally available in Shoppers Drug Mart. Okay I finally stumble across it last week but in almost each store, the displays were so picked over that the only things I could find were the Color Show polishes, a couple Glaze blushes and the black Color Tattoo which didn’t interest me. I finally found a display that hadn't been decimated!


The product from the Dare to Go Nude collection that intrigued me the most were the Color Tattoos. They come in 6 shades which are limited edition. There was only four in the display.








I had hoped that this Color Tattoo would have been more opaque. I guess am going to have play around with it more to see how I can use it. Maybe overtop of other shadows to give it a little glitter pop?

My first Maybelline Color Tattoo was Painted Purple. It looks gorgeous in the pot but didn’t swatch or go on well. It was just too sheer.  You can see my initial review here. I just couldn’t get the colour to pop in swatches or on my eyes.

So I figured a way to make it work. Yep all it took was the right application...well the right brush.



Products used:
I used UD primer potion (the original formula) to prime my lid. YAH if you read past posts the UD primer potion in Eden makes my eyes dry right up but the original formula is fantastic. Anyhooo, I am not sure if this made a difference in making the colour pop but don't skip it LOL.

I started to use Glamourdolleyes’  All Nighter eyeshadow in the crease but discovered that it was almost the same color as Painted Purple!  What? So what was left on the brush I patted on the Painted Purple to set it. Then I put Creep (black) from my Naked palette in the outer V area. Over that I blended Glamourdolleyes’ Typical Girl and into the crease and under the eyes. Since I had the Naked palette out I used Virgin under the brow and to soften the edges. In the inner corner of my eyes I used the Color Tattoo in Too Cool.

For the rest of the eyes I used; Annabelle liquid eyeliner in Black, Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner in Zero, L'oreal Voluminous Million Lashes mascara .

This is how Painted Purple originally went on for me. I patted it on my eye with my finger and no primer.

Pomegranate Punk as the base colour on my lid and crease. As you can see, it comes across as a mauvy brown on me.


88 palette; a warm light brown as my blending colour in my crease up to brow bone and a dark brown as the outer V.

Mascara: L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Black

Pomegranate Punk is now becoming one of my favorites. I had originally thought it was going to be too burgundy for me to pull off but was pleasantly surprised that it came off so warm. It goes to show that you can never judge an eyeshadow by just looking at it! I found Pomegranate Punk is buildable to a certain extent. If you put too much on it starts to look a little cakey. Too little and it is so sheer to even be noticed really. I find patting it on with my ring finger and not dragging the shadow works best for application.

So I mentioned last week, in my Painted Purple post, that I picked up some more Maybelline Colour Tattoos 24hr Eyeshadows. I grabbed Bad to the Bronze and Tough as Taupe.

 Tough as Taupe is a great base. I have to say I have been using this in place of my MAC Painterly paint pot. :O  I like how it is creamy yet has a matte appearance. You can layer it up to build up intensity. So easy to work with. I find using a sponge applicator makes it so easy to apply a smooth even layer of colour. I also use my ring finger to blend out the outer edges. And If I am so inclined, I will layer a complimenting shadow over top. It gives the powder eyeshadow a boost. If you love taupes, GO GET THIS!

Would I buy again? Hell yeah. I wonder how these will hold up after a few months. I hope they do not dry out. 

It is probably best to get these at Walmart/Target /CVS. I noticed the drugstores jacked up the price by $3-$4. I got these guys at Walmart for $6.97 CDN. Shoppers Drug Mart have them for $9.99 CDN :O.

Last Friday I returned a liquid liner (Relvon ColourStay) to Shoppers Drug Mart. It was horrible! It was watery and a very grey. Not the Blackest Black as the packaging promised! I think I got a dud. Turned me right off! L

Anyhooo, while I was waiting for the CR to ring through my exchange, I noticed the Maybelline Colour Tattoo Eyestudio 24hr Eyeshadow display. It had such a rich array of colours.

I was intrigued by the colours and the only tester I could see, Tough as Taupe, was gorgeous. It instantly reminded me of the consistency of my MAC Paint Pot. I had a $10 coupon for Shoppers Drug Mart so I grabbed Painted Purple. FREE!

Off I went back to work with my colour tattoo pot. I ripped it open right at my desk and swatched it on my arm. It was pretty pretty pretty! It’s a beautiful shade of purple and has a teeny little bit of sparkle. But it didn’t go on as intense as it shows up in the pot. When I swatched the Tough as Taupe it went on more creamy and had more full coverage. Painted Purple seemed to skim the top layer of the derma and didn’t go into skin. Does that make sense?

But I thought I would play with it more when I got home. After about 3 hours, I remembered I still had the swatch on the back of my hand. It was still as if I just swatched it and when I rubbed my finger across the swatch there was no movement of the pigment at all. None. These suckas ain't going anywhere!

So this morning I had some errands to run. When I was getting ready I thought I would test it out a bit. I just used my finger to swipe it on my eyelids and crease, no primer. Then I set it with some light purple eyeshadow from my Sephora Smokey Eye kit. Nothing dramatic as I was going to Wal-Mart and Home Depot. Don't want to scare the Sunday townfolk! Haha.



My feelings on Painted Purple? BEE-U-TEE-FUL colour but it didn’t go on as intense as I hoped. But it didn’t put me totally off the Color Tattoo shadows as I bought 2 Tough as Taupes and a Bad to the Bronze. LOL :P Reviews to come on them later. I am such an addict...
